This one-day seminar held in May brought together over 60 of the region’s architects, conservation officers, historic environment champions, and planners to explore how modern contemporary building design can be successfully incorporated into historic settings.

The seminar, sponsored by English Heritage was an opportunity to discuss the key issues relating to the built environment in the region, bringing together many of the key thinkers on the subject and provided for lively discussion.

As well as speakers including Tristan Rees Roberts, Director of Cambridge based architects, Freeland Rees Roberts, David Thompson, Chairman of RIBA East and Nigel Barker, Historic Areas Advisor for English Heritage South Easter Region, delegates were led on a tour of the old, new and under development areas of Norwich Cathedral by the Dean of Norwich, the Very Reverend Graham Smith and Tim Coleridge of award winning Hopkins Architects.

“The events was beyond excellent and I feel that I have learnt a great deal from the day”

“Very thought provoking – a good mix of speakers and the cathedral tour was great”

“There is always a lot of interest for elected members to learn at these gatherings- I always come to them”
