Expert-led Visit to the BRE Innovation Park

Tuesday 15th December
BRE Innovation Park, Watford

"This event will enable me to encourage innovation and new designs and champion the use of new materials in conservation projects"

BRE

The BRE Innovation Park Visit was the fourth in our series of 6 seminars open to Local Authority Officers and Councillors in theEastern region. The programme has been funded by Improvement East.

Shape East organised a trip to the world renowned BRE innovation park, leading over 60 delegates in coaches from both Ely and Basildon to this inspiration site in Watford.

The trip provided a unique opportunity to visit the Park, which features a number of demonstration BREproperties showcasing the latest and most innovative Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), near zero-carbon homes and over 200 different inspiring and emerging technologies. The Park comprises a number of homes designed to the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes; which measures the sustainability of a home (1 to 6 star rating) against categories such as energy, water, waste, wellbeing, ecology and bio-diversity.

Delegates attended from over 20 local authorities all over the Eastern Region. The day included a lecture from Oliver Novakovic,Director of future housing, a 2 hour interactive tour of the park which allowed delegates to see the houses both externally and internally and gave them an opportunity to ask the expert tour guides questions as they went around the park, an opportunity utilised to the full!

A cold but enjoyable day was had by all and provided delegates with a useful insight into the future of housing and their potential role in ensuring this!
