Green Buildings in Norfolk – CPRE Open Days

Thursday 11th and Sunday 14th September 2008

CPRE Tours

Shape East supported the Campaign for Rural England’s (CPRE) initiative to open up ‘green’ buildings throughout Norfolk. Visits were free. From the small scale cob, earth and sedum studio at Banham to the large scale zero-carbon town house development at Ecostessey Park, there was a great variety of buildings to choose from. Highlights included the project at Itteringham Mill which has one of the UK’s first hydro-turbine schemes - generating all the owner’s electricity needs from the River Bure. And the GreenGauge Homes’ development in Lingwood was also new for this year, demonstrating, with 15 social houses, that it is possible to incorporate environmentally friendly technologies into affordable housing.

The Green Buildings Open Days included 15 properties, all of which have eco-features:- such as solar panels, ground source heat pumps, wind turbines, rainwater harvesting or hydro-turbines. The free guided tours took place from Thursday September 11th to Sunday September 14th and were organised by the CPRE Norfolk as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days scheme.
