  BURA CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR TWO REGENERATION AWARD SCHEMES
 The British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) currently has two national award schemes open for entries. Projects in the Eastern region may wish to consider entering to boost their project or organisation’s profile:
 
Waterways Renaissance Awards - open for entries until 30 Sep
These awards are run in conjunction between the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) and The Waterways Trust. Projects from across the UK, urban or rural, and from any sector may enter. With 10 categories there should be appropriate categories for any waterways project.
 
Community Inspired Regeneration Awards – open for entries until 15 Oct
Recognising grassroots projects making a difference to their local area. Sponsored by Communities and Local Government for a third year running, these awards celebrate best practice in community inspired and led regeneration in urban and rural areas across the United Kingdom.

New Funding stream for ‘Youth Facilities’
The Big Lottery Fund is delivering myplace on behalf of the DCSF. This is not Lottery funding. myplace aims to deliver world class youth facilities driven by the active participation of young people and their view and needs. View the website for more information.

Shape would be very interested in participating in any bids being developed for these projects – particularly in the consultation and engagement of young people within the client group.

 
 

Shortlist for 2008 Prime Minister's better Public Building Award
Twenty-one projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award, which is sponsored jointly by CABE and the Office of Government Commerce. They show how design can ensure that people are valued and respected in the delivery of public services.

A local finalist is the new Riverside Bridge in Cambridge; Principle Designer, Ramboll Whitbybird.

CPRE Bedfordshire launches new countryside and design award
The Bedfordshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England has launched its first Countryside and Design Awards scheme which aims to recognise outstanding projects that preserve and enhance both the rural and built environment in the county.

Nominations for the awards are being invited from members of the public and organisations and project categories include landscape improvements, new buildings, restorations, conversions and school projects.  Developments must have been completed between January 2004 and September 2008.  Entries need to be submitted by 30th September 2008.
